The donation strengthens the various actions to help fight the pandemic in Ceará carried out by the company since March 2020
Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecém (CSP) donated R$ 520 thousand to the Government of the State of Ceará, through the Secretariat of Health (Sesa), for the rental of equipment and the assembly of 24-bed structures, entirely intended for the treatment of patients with Covid-19 in Ceará. The donation was consolidated through a contract signed on March 30, and the funds have already been applied to the structuring and equipping of these beds at the Campaign Hospital attached to the General Hospital of Fortaleza (HGF), which is already saving lives.
“Our main value is: life first. And we practice this motto every day within our company. At this difficult time, we feel the need to help externally as well, an attitude we have maintained since the beginning of the pandemic. We hope that we will soon go through this challenging moment for everyone”, highlights the president of CSP, Marcelo Botelho.
Last year, CSP donated R$ 1.5 million to purchase hospital supplies and equipment to fight the coronavirus in the State of Ceará. 220 thousand masks were also donated by the Company’s shareholders (Vale, Posco and Dongkuk) and delivered to employees and their families, outsourced workers, neighboring communities and the State Government. 15,600 quick tests were also donated to the State Government by Vale, a shareholder of CSP. In addition, 2 thousand kits with masks and hygiene items were donated to professionals at seven health stations in the municipalities of São Gonçalo do Amarante and Caucaia.
At the beginning of 2021, faced with a second worrying wave of contamination by Covid-19, with the acceleration in the number of cases in the State of Ceará, the Company is reinforcing its internal prevention measures. The reinforcement of the home office for the employees, cancellation of in-person training, business trips and visits and virtual meetings are some of the attitudes.
The company has been rigorously following the sanitary guidelines and recommendations of competent bodies, prioritizing the health and safety of its employees, families and society in general.
Assistance to 4 thousand people in communities
This April, Voluntários da Alegria – a volunteer program formed by CSP employees – collected 560 food baskets. This was the fourth wave of donations, which together add up to over 2,500 food baskets. The food benefits residents of communities neighboring the CSP, in São Gonçalo do Amarante and Caucaia.
More than 50 external and internal measures have been taken by the CSP to minimize the spread of the virus. The actions are applied and impact not only direct employees, but also employees of outsourced companies that work at the plant, their families and the community. Among them, the development of a daily self-assessment application, mass testing and adoption of the home office modality for the administrative area.
