Water Sprinkler System
In order to control the emission of particulate matter in the piles of the Raw Materials Courtyard, CSP has a sprinkler system that uses recycled water. In addition to this control, the sprinkling of the access roads to the yard is carried out.
Treatment of effluents from patios
The liquid effluents from the rain collection and the sprinkler system of the stockpiles are collected and transported to a sedimentation basin. As a result, the steelmaker uses the rainwater and reuses the water in the area.
Soil protection system
To avoid soil and groundwater contamination, under all Raw Material Patios there is a protection system, with the installation of geomembrane (plastic, flexible and elastic alloy blanket) and geotextile (blanket that has hydraulic properties , Physical and mechanical, which guarantee the best performance and durability to the system).
Another important control measure planned for the reduction of emissions of particulate matter is the planting of green belt in the surroundings of the Patios of raw materials. This belt is formed by trees of native species, with height between 15 and 20 meters. The belt acts as a barrier, reducing wind speed and absorbing pollutants from the air.
Treatment of effluents from gas cleaning BFG
The effluents from blast furnace gas cleaning are treated in the effluent treatment system composed of thickeners and filters. Clarified water is reused for water spray in the gas cleaning system. In turn, the sludge generated represents one of CSP’s co-products, with final destination companies producing ceramics, which use the raw material input.
Slag granulation system
Blast-furnace slag granulation consists of treating this co-product with a jet of water, providing granulation and cooling. The input is destined to the cement industry.
This system is a new technology of automated pressure control in the risers, ensuring the control of the pressure individually in each furnace, independent of external disturbances. The operation of the system significantly reduces gas emissions through the doors and risers.
Baosteel Slag Short Flow (BSSF)
Baosteel Slag Short Flow (BSSF) is an unprecedented process in Brazil. The liquid slag is tilted in a rotating drum and, through cooling, is granulated and magnetically separated by metallic and non-metallic materials. With this, it is possible to add value to the material and use it as an aggregate or as a hydraulic building agent.
